The benefits of saving food and not throwing it away. How do you reduce the amount of food that's thrown away at restaurants?
More often than not, you eat 3 times a day, or more. These meals could be eaten at restaurants for a nice gathering with friends and family. How do you reduce the amount of food that you throw away?
What to do at restaurants?
Maybe you are out with friends and you want to try something new. It might come out wrong or it's something that is not appetizing for you. When you tell your waiter about the issue, they most likely will take it in the back and hopefully correct your order or let you order something new. What happens to that food when it's taken to the back? It is thrown away in the #trash, no surprise. How can we try avoid this issue?
Avoiding the issue
The first thing you can do is ask the waitress about the dish. Ask her in detail about what is in the dish and if they have ever tried it. This can give you a good perspective about what dish you are ordering. Ask your friends about their opinion and ask if they've tried the dish or something similar.
Another thing you can do is share the dish you want to try with whoever you are with. When there are two people eating one dish, it leaves less room for wastage and hopefully, one of you will like it and eat the whole meal.
Something else that you can do is try to make yourself eat it. Often, if you eat a certain type of food more, you will learn to like it.
A final thing you can do is ask you waiter to wrap the meal you ordered to go. Then when you are home, you can dispose it in your compost. Although this could be an uncomfortable conversation, you have to be very passionate about this cause and be confident in the conversation. The waiter should have no problem when you tell him about this reason and assure them about your cause, which will help them be less suspicious about what you will be doing.
