Food Wastage, What is it?

A growing issue that is negatively effecting the environment and our morals.

Food wastage. It is the throwing away of unused food. Food wastage occurs at all stages of the food processing system. In developed nations, the average person throws away 220 pounds of food a year. That equals 1.3 billion tons of food being wasted per year. Not only is this a moral issue, knowing many people across the world are starving, but this also hurts the environment.

It is morally and environmentally unfriendly.

How Does Food Wastage Affect the Environment?

Additionally, most uneaten food rots in landfills where it accounts for almost 25% of U.S. methane emissions. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas that is 21 times more harmful to the environment than CO2 (ThinkEatSave).
