Thinking more about what is needed to combat the issue of food waste at a large scale.
How do we discourage food waste at all levels of the food production line?
Starting off with food producers like farms. Having regulation that help promotes a reduction in food waste and limits the amount that they can waste while also funding different initiatives that provides farmers with resources to reuse and rethink the way that they throw away the food would save a lot of waste at that level.
What about grocery stores and restaurants?
Incentives; Many companies need incentives to donate or create sustainable waste with their food because going through that process takes time, resources, and money. If there is government funding and incentives, this could be done in a lot easier way. A lot of laws happen to be regulation and limits on food waste, while there is only a few that give these entities a benefit of donating, rather than them doing it out of their own morality.
People and households?
Food campaigns and initiatives that educate people on why and how they can reduce their waste if that's for implementing a composting center in their house and community or if its encouraging people to take home uneaten food from restaurants and give them a place they can donate food that they bought.
